Strategies for Success
By Jamie McGarvey, MS,LCPC Life Coach
1. Work on your life.not just in it. Creating the life you want is a proactive process and it is essential that you take the time to look at your life to determine what is missing.or what isn't working well so that you can take action.

2. Invest in yourself. In order to be successful you must know what that means to you.you need to invest in a relationship with yourself and spend time connecting with and taking care of yourself so that your life reflects what is important to you.

3. Leverage your goals. Human beings seek pleasure and avoid pain. If you leverage these drives when trying to reach a goal then you are more likely to succeed. For example: What will happen if you don't achieve this goal (pain)? What will happen (feelings) if you do (pleasure)?

4. Create a road map to success. If you don't know where you are going any road will take you there.so to be successful you need to determine where you want to go and design a strategy of action that will get you there. You must turn your dream into a goal making it very specific and giving it a timeline for completion. Your goal must be both clear an compelling.

5. Know you will fail. Yes, fail! Those people who are extraordinarily successful have failed a lot along the way. You must fail forward and learn from your experience. Knowing you will fail takes the fear away and gives you permission to take the risk to continue to strive for what you want in your life.

6. Keep your focus. Focus on the goal not the action. Many actions will not give you the results you wanted or expected so don't focus on the actions.continue to focus on the goal.what you really want to have different in your life. If you focus on what you want then you can continue to create new actions to get you there rather than dwell on the frustration of a particular action.

7. Use the power of your relationships. The people you surround yourself with can either assist you in reaching your goal or get in the way. It is essential that you surround yourself with people who are stretching themselves, are successful and want more in the same area you want to improve. ,p. 8. Take action. Action changes your emotions. Action motivates you. Action will get you results. You must move out of talking about, complaining about or thinking about what you want and starting DOING something about it.

9. Stop rationalizing. Rationalizing is a huge stumbling block for success. If you continue to tell yourself a story of why it is that you can't change.why it is that you are ''fine'' then you will stay exactly where you are right now. Get out of your own story and don't allow excuses to get in your way.

10. Learn from yourself and others. There are definite patterns of success. Look at those who have already been successful and follow their steps to success. Or look at your own history of success and determine what was essential for your success in the past. Learn from yourself and others.
