Your Thermostat for Success
By Jamie McGarvey, MS,LCPC Life Coach
"Our Life is What Our Thoughts Make of It." ~ Marcus Aurelius Antonius ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~ We all have an internal thermostat for success...it is set in your comfort zone. When you move outside of your comfort zone your thermostat lets you know and either sends a message to kick up the heat and get moving or cool down...stopping you in your tracks. Our thermostat for success is managed by our beliefs, thoughts and corresponding actions.

If your life isn't working well...you might send a message to your thermostat -- Time for a Change! Then you will jump start yourself into action. How often has the pain in your life motivated you to change course? If your thermostat is set low...you believe you only can experience a minimal amount of success then you will sabotage yourself when things start to go well in your life. You will get in your own way because your success has pulled you outside of your comfort zone.

When you are pulled outside of your comfort zone you might...

a.. Experience success in business and then stop showing up for key meetings or returning phone calls.

b.. Begin a great new relationship and then start seeing only the negative in the person.

c.. Be 10 pounds from your goal weight and return to bad habits.

d.. Never be able to save any money no matter how much you earn or work.

It is important to become aware of your thermostat...and what beliefs you have that set your thermostat. Do you believe you deserve to be successful? Extremely successful? What does success mean to you? Understand these associations can be a powerful way to move you out of your comfort zone and raise the level of success in your life.

Living well means you stretch yourself...you raise the thermostat and you get comfortable with more. You decide where your thermostat is through your thoughts and actions. You decide how much success you will experience. Take charge of your success by managing your thermostat.

Challenge

1. Determine what you would like to experience in these five areas...stretch yourself...move out of your comfort zone...not what you'll settle for...what you * really * want to experience.

* Spirit * Relationships * Finances * Physical/Health * Career

2. Decide that you are willing to take action to move toward your desired outcome. Write the decision down.

3. Take one action in each area and build from there.

4. Evaluate the results...is it moving you towards your desired outcome? Plan on failing...it is a part of succeeding.

Celebrating Your Success

I want to honor the small steps and the big ones each of you take to create success in your life.

a.. Olivia is wearing jean, taking care of herself and lost 54 pounds.

b.. Heather is honoring her boundaries and her commitment to her well-being.

c.. Kathleen is finding her voice and standing up for what she wants in life. d.. Beth and Denise joined the Life Makeover Group.

e.. Sally has made significant changes to improve her work.

f.. Martha is finding the opportunity in adversity.

g.. Jolinda is growing her business and her baby extraordinarily.
