Jack Opens up to Sheldon-Feng Shui Consultant
Four months had come and gone and still no call from Jack.
Meg had
called on a couple of occasions to touch base, and to give me a couple
of new referrals. This morning's call brought news that Jack had been
living with her and her family for the past couple of months. She was
concerned that Jack had all but suspended all social life, did not
answer calls of old friends, and took increasingly more days off from
work.
She was afraid that they had reverted to their childhood pattern
of her being the protective older sister, but only Jack had lost his
verve and and ambition that made him all state halfback, and got him
elected as ''most likely to succeed''.
Because she believed that in
order to regain his former spirit he needed to establish his
independence and move to his own home.
She would ask Jack to return to
his condo within the week ,and arranged another meeting, this time with
the three of us in that all too cluttered living space.
I demanded
that either she or Jack or the entire city's custodial staff,if need be,
come in and clean and organize the space prior to the session.
Upon
receiving the all clear call from Jack, we agreed to meet for a Feng
Shui Consultation on the following Wednesday at Jack's place.
In the following, I will share the salient aspects of our consultation.
Once I got around Jack's new mountain bike that he wedged behind the
door in the foyer, I noticed a good sized open and clean living-dining
space with large windows overlooking a park like setting.
The kitchen
was to the right of the foyer and adjoined the dining area.
The two
bedrooms were located in tieback of this large rectangular space
separated by a center hall through which there were the bedroom entries
and a half bath.
The architects instinctively allowed for good energy
flow. After the brief tour we convened in the rather spartan living
room to review Jack's immediate and long term goals.
He summarized them
by saying that he still cares most strongly about his children and the
rest of his facility. His career seems less important to him now, but
would like to rekindle interest and ambition in it, and is not
particularly interested in what comes down the pike 2 to 5 years from
now. He added that he feels a lot better in a tidy space, and would
like it to be comfortable for him and his children on there weekend
visits.
Meg offered to call in a decorator, I offered that I often
work with decorators and designers, but for now lets deal with Chi, the
Bagua areas, and acknowledge Jack's goals.
Our first job was to promote and enhance positive Chi.
We started by
unblocking the threshold by moving the bike to the garage.
To start a
long list, I recommended that the large entertainment armor be moved to
the back wall so as not to block the open window views and clockwise
flow.
The couch and chairs should be placed so that noone's back would
be to the door in cozy conversation areas from which all could see the
view.
I suggested crystals for the dining area windows to disperse the
spectral colors throughout the space , invite the fresh air and sunshine
indoors and in the bedroom hallway because of the low ceiling.
Since
all objects assume a presence for us and have a sense of living
energy;(high-low,positive-negative,calm-exciting. etc),that we absorb
and react to, I suggested that Jack's athletic and academic trophies and
awards be housed in a cabinet specifically in the fame baqua of his
bedroom, that photos of his children and extended family be wall
mounted in the family baqua area of the living room,
and that since
people in transition need grounding(especially water signs) to place
heavy three dimensional objects and art near walls and under windows,
and to place a sun catcher in the children's room to capture many colors
that could apply to all of the natures in general until we do a special
feng shui for them after they move in some of their personal
belongings.
In the children's room, I pointed out that the beds and the
desk should be facing or at least in veiw of the door.
Since the kitchen is in the travel and helping people bagua area, to
reinvigorate his career ambitions, I suggested cookbooks from all over
the world, and that someone make a collage of chefs with faces of Jack's
business associates and favorite clients beaming on him as he prepares a
meal. The black, gray, and white appliances were a natural for this
area. All this for good food, good friends. and good feelings about
what you do for a living.
The children bagua area, the next area of
concern, was located in the dining room. I suggested a print of a
still life and his precious little girls by Renoir, and of children
playing in a school yard by Winslow Homer. I emphasized that white and
metals dominate, that metal be apparent to control the water flows that
invite deep emotion, and that rich warm woods as well as lush green
round leaved plants add an element of nurture to the area.
Since the
baguas of career and fame are opposite each other and were both located
in halls in this instance, they are open and very accessible to one
another. I suggested that on the wall opposite of the closet a
collection of framed images of various professionals and tradesmen by
Norman Rockwell and other illustrators. Under which is placed a shelf
for CPA trade journals and some leather bound professional volumes.
In
the hall across from the foyer is to be mounted a small guilt framed
mirror surrounded by framed pictures of prominent clients, and newspaper
clippings of Jack and noted public dignitaries all mounted on maroon
walls. All important bases thus covered, since I always assign an art
project to produce closer identification with the consultation, I asked
that Jack and his children create the collage for the kitchen, and that
he call me in six months to let me know how things are going.
Follow-up: After getting several unofficial glowing progress reports
from Meg along the way, Jack did call after six months to tell me that
he , Meg and the children with the help of a good decorator carried out
almost all of the suggestions. That he felt very comfortable with his
home, that the children enjoyed staying there on weekends, that
work, without becoming totally overwhelming and consuming as it was
before his divorce, was becoming more stimulating and fulfilling again.
In his spare time he was helping develop funds for a local amateur
soccer team.
He asked me to come to his home in three weeks to do a
special FengShui consultation for his children's room, and said his new
girl friend would be there.
